FAMILY FEATURED LIFESTYLE TRAVEL

First Family Trip

April 21, 2017

Now that Hudson is 6 months old, we thought it would be the perfect time to go on our first family vacation. We were originally tossing the idea of Hawaii around, but decided against it because we didn’t know how he would handle traveling and sleeping in a strange place. We thought it would be better to stay somewhat local, so if the shit hit the fan, we could just drive home. Kevin came up with the idea of Tofino and it was a great compromise. I had never been to Tofino and have always heard amazing things about it.

We booked 4 nights at The Wichaninnish Inn located on Chesterman Beach. The hotel has this rustic, cozy elegance to it and we were thrilled to call this “home” for the next few days. Our hotel room had a large window looking out to the beach where we watched the surfers ride the waves.

We spent a lot of time at the hotel mainly because Hudson had to nap a couple times during the day so we never strayed too far. There were many walks on the beach and popping in to town for lunch and dinner. We made sure to hit up the Tacofino truck a couple times, Tofino Brewery and The Wolf in the Fog. I highly recommend them all. We even drove to Ucluelet one evening for dinner to try a BBQ joint called “Hank’s BBQ” and it was a major hit. Who knew you could get good BBQ in Ucluelet?!

This trip coincided with my birthday, so Kevin had made a reservation at the hotel’s restaurant called “The Pointe”. We were even lucky enough to have dinner by ourselves because the hotel offers complimentary babysitting when dinning in their restaurant (amazing!). We enjoyed their tasting menu and the spectacular view on the pointe looking straight out into the ocean. It was really lovely.

We made sure to do a hike while there. We opted for the “Toquin Trail” which was more of a nature walk than a hike. The novelty of a hike wore off quickly for Hudson as he napped three quarters of it (as seen in the picture below).

All in all it was a great trip and I was actually really sad to leave. Hudson travels so well and had no issues sleeping in a strange crib. The area was so quiet and was a nice change from the fast city life. I really enjoyed the early dinners and once we got Hudson down for bed at 7pm, I enjoyed sitting by the fireplace and getting some work done on the laptop. Kevin and I have already talked about going again next year. I really hope we do!
